Resolved Question: Some editors appear to own articles ... is this a major problem on Wikipedia?

Basically I've been a registered user for a few months and there is one article in particular that I spend a lot of time working on, but long story short, it doesn't matter how productive, how useful or how well cited a piece of information I've added is. It is immediately removed by one particular user who seems to own the the page. He's a well-established user so challenging him is just asking for a ban. I'm well versed in all the rules, so I'm not a newbie complaining about unproductive edits being removed. Ultimately it feels like a waste of time. Is this common on Wikipedia, or is it a gender thing?
