Open Question: Isn't introducing ads better than making a donation campaign with huge banners on Wikipedia?

Don't you people think clicking on ads is more economical and efficient than paying hard-earned money as donations? Of-course, excess ads are always bad. But what I'm saying is a limited number of "TEXT" ads (no pictures/animations) just enough for maintaining the site should be included in wikipedia so as to avoid the donation campaign. Donation is burdensome to the end-user as well as irritation to the wikimedia foundation. Also the donation banner is no different than ads for the end-user. In fact the donation banner is far more annoying than an average ad due to its huge size. What may be the motive behind the present way of working of Wikipedia? Is JimmyWales trying to fool us with a secret agenda? Is Wales trying to gain "extra fame"? Is Wales just being irrational?
