A few months ago I was indefinitely block for being accused of "sock puppetry", even though I only used one account. I tried to explain the fact that I was only using one account to others, but they basically said "you're guilty no matter what" and said that I should be blocked based on "behavior evidence". This is such crap because I KNOW I wasn't socking.
I made many, many unblock requests, and all of them ended being replied to with "your request has been declined", which infuriated me even more. Wikipedia is so unbelievably unfair.
To make matters worse, there is a user (I won't mention his name) who has been consistently bullying me and hounding me for years, and his account is basically used to harass me and accuse of things I didn't do. I've complained about him to multiple administrators, but the administrators always say the same thing: "YOU'RE the one who's wrong, YOU'RE the guilty one, YOU'RE a sock puppet, etc". The bully user's account remains non-blocked, and he has even been awarded a "barnstar" for harassing me (calling the the "Defender of the Wiki" barnstar).
Ironically, I guess you could say I've been "socking", but only recently and as a last resort AFTER the erroneous false accusation was made of me. Basically, I got so fed up of trying year after year to get unblocked the "normal" way (through Wikipedia's crappy "unblock" procedures, which always resulted in "denied requests") that I decided to start a new account and begin editing again, since it was clear to me that no matter what I did, no one would ever unblock my original account. Within 24 hours of making edits with the new account, the bully user (whose goal is to stalk me) accused me of "sock puppetry" and "block evasion", and my new account was blocked indefinitely by the administrators he summoned.
I don't know what to do -- I want to continue making edits to Wikipedia, but so long as there is this mean stalking bully user (a "sock hunter") who has made it his life's goal to "hunt down" any edits I make to a specific group of articles, how do I proceed? If I try to revive my original account, unfriendly administrators will simply deny my request. If I try to create a new account, the bully stalker will accuse me of "sock puppetry" and his henchmen will block that account indefinitely.
Amazingly, people NOT RELATED TO ME have been blocked by the bully stalker user. For example, the bully stalker complained that [User #1], [User #2] and [User #3] were "sock puppets" of me, even though they're NOT, and administrators promptly blocked all of those unrelated users based purely on "behavior evidence" -- they were blocked not on anything concrete, just a "hunch". That is ridiculous. They were accused of being me, and when I tried to tell them that they weren't me and were UNRELATED, they said "based on behavioral evidence, they are you" -- that is such crap. In addition, I know for a fact (based on logic) that at least one administrator was lying, because the IP Address of the unrelated person could not possibly have been the same as mine, and yet the administrator said it was the same -- using a verification tool ("CheckUser") that only he and his elite group can use (thus allowing him to lie and get away with it).
So my question is, how do I get out of this mess? Should I just leave Wikipedia? It seems like a really crappy place. People should get rid of "indefinite blocks" because it is unfair to block someone with no time limit, especially with something as ambiguous as "sock puppetry" (i.e. random people being blocked and being called 'guilty until proven innocent'). The Wikipedia administrators (at least the ones I've encountered) seem to care more about blocking people and detecting "socks" than with the actual content of the site. What if a "sock" (or a person accused of being a "sock") has something valuable to add to the site? That info will never get to the site because of the mean-spirited administrators.
Regarding accusations made of people being "socks" and "indefinite blocks" -- it is almost like grabbing a random person off the street, accusing them of something they haven't done, and then throwing them in a prison with no guarantee of ever being released.
