I'm writing a math paper on the probability of catch within various generations of the videogame Pokémon. Virtually my only source is Bulbapedia. It's a great source, but I was reading through it and I got stuck on something. Knowing how to do these equations is an important part of my paper, so if someone could help me figure out what something means, it would be very much appreciated.
If you will, go to this link: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Catch_rate#Capture_method_.28Generation_I.29. Scroll down to the section labeled "Shake Probability". Then look down right below to the part labeled "Generation I". I'm having trouble knowing what terms "b" and "a" are exactly. If you'll notice, throughout the entire article, terms have been labeled, but for this part of the article, a and b aren't labeled, and I don't know what they represent. Once I figure out what these terms are, I can substitute them into the equations and finishing conducting my research.
Thanks in advance.
The wiki says to "consult the following table to determine b", then gives a table full of numbers. How exactly am I supposed to consult the table to find out what "b" is? What is "b" and "a", is my question.
